SAT is a standardized test that helps universities determine where the candidate stands in an objective manner. This test is a great way for universities to understand how well prepared a candidate is for college as well as get an idea of the skills that you have developed in your school.
Earlier, there used to be two types of SAT tests- SAT General Test and SAT Subject Test. However, the SAT Subject Test has been discontinued by the SAT College Board so now there is only one SAT test which everyone takes.
The SAT General Test is usually taken by students wanting to get an admission into undergraduate programs. This test assesses your critical reasoning and evaluates them on the basis of their written, verbal, and mathematical skills.

SAT Exam Pattern
This exam is divided into 3 sets- Writing, Reading, and Mathematics. You will be allotted 3 hours’ time to complete the test and score range for this test is between 400 and 1600 points. You can join SAT online coaching

Now that you are aware about the exam pattern let’s have a look at the syllabus for the test for each section and what they aim to assess.
• Reading
There are a total of 5 passages of varied lengths and following each passage 10-11 questions are asked. The aim of this test is to evaluate your ability to comprehend written texts, understand the meaning of the words in different contexts, and associate terms with implied meaning.
• Writing and Language
In the writing and language test you will be assessed based on your ability to find errors, rephrase, and rewrite the highlighted parts with alternate texts, etc. The purpose of this section is to determine how good your grammar and vocabulary are.
• Mathematics
It is broken into two sections: a 25-minute segment without a calculator and a 55-minute section with a calculator permitted. It has 58 problems that incorporates a wide range of mathematical fundamentals such as algebra, statistics, geometry, arithmetic, probability, data interpretation, and problem solving.
To clarify, there used to be a fourth part of this test, which was the essay, but it has now been discontinued. So, there are three parts and just one type of SAT test i.e., the general test. So don’t get confused if you stumble upon a previous paper for practice that has this section.
