Test Format

1. Listening Section
The listening section consists of four recordings with ten questions each. These recordings are heard only once and they include a range of accents like British, Australian, New Zealand, American and Canadian.

2. Reading Section
The Reading section consists of three sections. The first section might contain two or three short texts or several shorter texts. The second section contains two texts. The third section has one long text.
The total time duration for this test section is 60 minutes and 40 questions are asked. The study materials include extracts from books, magazines, newspapers, notices, advertisements, company handbooks and guidelines.
3. Writing Section
In the IELTS General Training Writing Section, topics are of general interest. This test section consists of two tasks. Task one is letter writing and task two is essay writing.
So, the test taker has two writing tasks to complete, and the total time duration is 60 minutes.
4. Speaking Section
The speaking section of this test consists of an oral interview. This interview is between the examiner and the test taker. The interview is conducted in three parts. Part one is the introduction, part two is a long turn and part three is the discussion.
The number of questions asked in this section is variable and the total time allotted for this section is between 11–14 minutes.
